...eating
OK, so I spend most weekends eating. But this weekend, I had some particularly good food which seemed worth sharing. Following an epic Saturday at the Rugby 7s in Twickenham, I had been too busy spending my time gawping at manly thighs to think about eating so I wanted to make up for it on Sunday. I started the day with brunch at Eco on Clapham High Street, which we stumbled across on our hunt for a good fry-up. The sun was shining which meant that there were plenty of people sat outside and we were drawn by the idea of snatching a window seat and people watching along the busy high street while we ate. (I especially liked the idea of spying hardcore rugby fans who were still in last night's safari fancy dress. I wasn't disappointed...)
We sat by a large horizontal window which opened inwards and allowed for lots of fresh air while we ate. Unfortunately, we discovered we were too late for a fry-up (boo) but I am now so happy that we were. I haven't been quite so impressed with a brunch/lunch (...it was 1pm by this point) in a long time. I ordered asparagus with poached egg, but the menu description didn't do it justice. Not even close. What I actually had was a mountain of salad (with cucumber and olives to make it a bit more interesting) topped with a piece of sourdough toast with a poached egg, crispy bacon and a ball of mozeralla wrapped in parma ham. It was so good, I can't stop talking about it. Seriously. An excellent 'I-want-to-feel-like-I've-had-a-healthy-lunch-for-under-a-tenner' stop-off.
Eco is technically a pizzeria, and whilst I didn't try one of the house delicacies, I must admit they looked tasty. I was tempted to finish off somebody's leftovers to be honest...
